Additional Financial Aid Information

Application and Information
To apply electronically, or to find out more about federal student aid, visit the US Department of Education's website: http://www.ed.gov/. This site has a searchable list of federal school codes, which you will need to complete on step five of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Financial Aid Payments
Aid from the Student Financial Aid Programs will be paid to you through the school. Your aid awards will almost always be paid to you by the semester, quarter, or other payment period. Typically, the school will first use the aid to pay any tuition and fee charges (and room and board, if provided by the school). The remainder will be paid to you for your other living expenses. Aid funds may not be credited for books and supplies and other school charges unless you have authorized this in writing.

State Aid Information
Free information about state programs may be obtained from the state education agency. In the District of Columbia, the agency is Office of Post-secondary Education, Research and Assistance, (202) 698-2400. The Federal Student Aid Center also has information about state aid programs in all of the states.

Other Resources
Other sources of information about student aid may also be available from foundations, religious organizations, community organizations, and civic groups. Organizations related to your field of interest such as the American Medical Association or the American Bar Association may have aid available. Check with your parents' employers to see if they award scholarships or have a tuition payment plan.
